Recap; 2009 HydroTherapy Session #4 - June 18th.

We had a great turnout of participants and spectators (about 30 total) for this session despite a less than optimal flow of 7000 CFS. Mini Climax Wave was the spot. Because of the flushy nature we tweaked the scoring rules as follows; 3 rides -no time limit, points were earned for tricks (even if you flushed after the trick) as well as the length of time of the individual's longest ride. Top two scores of each class advanced to a best of two rides -no time limit, points for tricks only, knock down-drag out final on the non-cooperative Mini-C (aka Moby Dick).

Beginners were also given points for everything from making their roll, to making the eddy and smiling during their ride. I was feeling generous and inspired by everyone's efforts and energy -almost on the level of a Federal Bail Out! The beginner, intermediate and expert classes (a first for this HydroRX Session) seemed well received by the participants and leveled the playing field ..... err - wave (which didn't need much help at being level).

Here's the break down of the Prelim's;

Beginner Class;
1st Place-Stephanie Semb (nailed her roll w/ big brother Dustin right there at her stern)
2nd Place -Charity (glad you got your kayak and joined in!)
3rd Place -Whitney (Mr. Riot)

Intermediate Class;
1st Place - Scott Jamieson (excellent strategy)
2nd Place -Dustin Semb (Big Brotha!)
3rd Place -Jonah (My name is Jonah!)
4th Place -Blake Sommers (Harry Potter)
5th Place-John Patrouch (not bad for arriving late JCP!)
6th Place -John Karpenko (Upstate ROCKS!)

Expert Class;
1st Place- Brain Jamieson (w/ Mom trying to sway the judge)
2nd Place- Pat McCudden (Cap't Pat w/ Mom as cheering section)
3rd Place- Quinton Barnett (represent ZooTown yo!)
4th Place- Dan Temple (yup-Boater Dan the Man!)

Finals Round Winners;
Beginner's - Stephanie Semb
Intermediate -Scott Jamieson
Expert - Brian Jamieson (no, the Melody factor was not an influence!)

The awards ceremony and raffle were graciously hosted in Billy and Teri's back yard (of Flora Rapids Web Cam fame) and raised $22 for the Spokane River Gorge WW Park with prizes generously donated by NRS, Epic Adventures, Fantastic Sam's and Mountain Goat Outfitters. You should see all the prizes that John Patrouch has won over all three seasons of HydroTherapy Sessions! If you need a soft cooler, go see Patrouch!

Here's a video (sporting the new "HydroRX Sessions Theme Song" for the soundtrack) recap of the event;

Here's a slide show of photos snapped by Kathy Byrne (my honey) who also served as scoring scribe and was an immense help to me;
